I'm still editing through images shot in Italy earlier this year. I absolutely love going back through this stuff and re living it through and through. Italy resonated so heavily with my senses - I probably shot more there than anywhere else I've been on assignment.  There is so much in Italy beyond the standard beauty, obviously there is the not so beautiful, just like anywhere, but there is so much beauty even in the smallest details and history seemingly embedded into every nook and cranny. Perhaps I'm artistically driven by history, and by subjects portrayed in the context of history. At any rate, as I get through my Italy work and try to discover some kind of shape and relationship between the thousands of images, I'm sure that from time to time you'll see more on here. Until then, please enjoy a few pictures from Rome and Florence.

finally, earlier this week, I made it to NYC for the first time in my life... I've been to every state in the lower 48, including many places in NY, and to many different countries... can't believe it took so long for me to get up there... am I hooked? not yet, but I could be. I can hardly resist a place with absolutely so much to look at...

 

Saba is a small slice of the Netherlands situated down there in the Caribbean Sea somewhere between Sint Maarten and Sint Eustatius. Saba is an island and Saba is a volcano. Saba is a place where I found respite in quiet landscapes and gingerbread houses tucked amidst tropical flora after photographing the frenetic pace of West Indian life for about 6 weeks. There is one road on Saba and it is called “the road.”  Throughout history it has been used as a pirate hideaway and up until fairly recent times all traffic, goods, etc. came to Saba via a long a slippery stairway ascending the slopes rising from the sea. Saba is often referred to as “the unspoiled queen” of the Caribbean.
